The graphic on this one is pretty sketchy, it is much clearer when you are holding the paper in your hand. But the idea is a lighting solution for a strait or optimally, a curved hallway. It would be composed of lighting elements and slats to hide the luminaires. Light would be present, but the viewer would never see the fixtures due to the slats.
This would be another circulations lighting solution. by creating baffles in the ceiling, with angled directional lights pointing in the direction of travel, the occupant's shadow would always be in front of them. This would be a neat effect almost like the light was pushing you from behind to move forward.
while it is not a designed lighting example, this concept art shows great use of light to reinforce the perspective points of the drawing.
"curtain lighting/fog"
This floor lamp is so minimalistic, and yet so elegant. It personifies design in a very pure and un-diluted fashion without any distracting elements. This design conveys an approach, more than just it's design. A whole building could be designed from this lamp alone because of this fact.
The lit cocktail tables in this club act as centers of attention, or gathering places. It is almost as if you "pull up a light fixture" as you would a chair. Very interesting.
The connection between form/architecture and the lighting fixture here is particularly good. It is very understated and impressively simple but yet so strong. It is almost as if the ceiling light panels are funneling the light through the boxes like gutters to a downspout. Very interesting effect.
I really enjoy this ceiling solution because the light fixtures create the ceiling plane. It recreates the ceiling we experience, and especially how we experience it. It is design like this that really grabs us and gives us that "wow" factor. This effect is exacerbated particularly through the use of the semi-reflective floor surface.

this lamp creates interesting shadow play and the density gradient of the numeric characters leads the eye upwards. I wonder how this effect could be used to other ends?
This has got to be the coolest idea for a clock. The light panes act as the digits in the same way a small watch or clock radio would. The innovation here is simply the scale of application. Everyone expects the time of day to be presented in a particular scale, normally small. When this is blown way out of proportion and used to dominate a space, the result is a very intriguing design composition.

I absolutely love Richard Meier's work, this gallery space in particular. The way the light casts on the slats of the ceiling looks incredible. Most art galleries are very boring and washed. This adds a little bit of understated flair to a normally bland environment.
This picture makes me imagine if there were several panes of glass layered at a particular offset. Each having some sort of etching on it. If you light the panes from the sides, and conceal the edges of the glass, as well as the light source, what would remain to be visible is a 3D image that appears to float in space. I have seen this done with shop cash wraps and such. It could be interesting.

Not a lighting piece, but a very interesting play on shadows. With some light features incorporated either behind the lattice, or shining on it such as pictured here, it would provide a very strong architectural and design statement; a very powerful vehicle for concept depending on the pattern of lattice or lighting used.
This lighting piece has such a great appeal. It almost acts as a part of the architecture... not just a fixture therein. The modularity of the parts allows for limitless shape possibilities. This could be a very powerful vehicle for concept if used in different ways throughout a design.
This artistic form of lighting exudes the definition of innovative. It creates such an urban appeal using such a normal clearly understood object in such an unusual way.
In this lighting solution, the interaction between the lit faces and the mirrored surfaces creates a bizarre sci-fi effect. the pattern on the wall is a much thinner "ghost" version of the ceiling plane. It is a very unique use of recesses and lighting to create a piece that invites the occupant to "explore" the forms visually.
I included this lighting sketch in my book because I really like the way that the architect represented the different candelas of the light fixtures. The daylight is also shown here. I tried to incorporate this style into my sketch series diagrams and such. I imagine a series of building sections such as this would be very effective at communicating a total lighting plan in elevation.

I think the power of this design is the use of small scale objects in a vast number. if you looked at a whole acre field of nothing but tennis balls or bottle caps, the power of those small objects becomes quite immense. This was quite successfully captured here, especially since the occupants are moving during their experience.

Studio Building Space Analysis

For our evaluation we chose the fourth floor of the Gatewood Studio Arts Building. The space is primarily used for the graduate and upper-year undergraduate students, as well as a critique space. The lighting is uncontrollable and extremely bright during the day due to large skylights. During the night, overhead fluorescent lights provide a similar quality of brightness however, it is much harsher. The space in and of it self is very open and public however, cubicles have been added which segments the areas and makes private spaces of it. In comparison to the other studio areas, it can be considered private due to the low traffic nature within that floor of the building.

The lighting becomes fatiguing and uncomfortable after prolonged exposure. One cannot look up without experiencing great glare from the overhead lights, which are for the most part, unshielded on the bottom. White walls throughout reflect a vast amount of the light and the space becomes over-lit. The fourth floor has sections offering different areas of privacy to include a small lounge area and gives a VIP feeling, when compared to the rest of the studio spaces below, which experience high traffic volume. The fourth floor is almost a dead end in a way.

Cool Lighting

The wall here creates a great sense of intrigue and depth. It is as if the text itself is speaking to the viewer through the light filtering through. This could be used for highly effective branding elements!
I absolutely love Wovin wall systems and am just itching for a good project that merits it's use! I mean Jesus just look at this place!



The wall wash in this front desk intensifies through color gradient the red wall. It makes it much more fiery and alive, almost as if the wall is a red hot slab of burning steel.
